She had dementia, was isolated from her family, lived in a home with a woman who was not capable, emotionally and physically abusive. My brother had her keep my mother away from myself, (her daughter) and her family. He sold everything she owned, lived high on the horse while my Mom slept in a chair, suffered without the proper care, and taken away from her family. She passed away before I could see her and get the help she needed. No one listened to her voice, nor mine. The lawyers promised I would see her, but just took my money. I need justice for my Mother... Lisa Ring PLEASE take a minute to read this petition and research the issue of elderly abuse and guardianship system. My mother tried to save the life of her childhood "mom" and ended up caught in the corrupt guardianship court system. She tried to end the abuse of a 92 year old woman, and in the process became a victim herself. She lost thousands, as the elderly woman also lost her life savings. We MUST address the issue at hand. It can no longer be ignored. Please help us stop it now before you and your loved ones fall victim to the Guardianship system, or elderly abuse. Anonymous This is such an important National human rights and civil rights issue. We need to help our vulnerable citizens. People can lose all of their civil right and then have their money taken from them in Guardianships by money hungry professionals and attorneys who charge what ever they want and the vulnerable person does not even have the right to hire an attorney to fight back. And most of this is approved by a Court Order somewhere. We the American People Must Speak Out for those who have no voice. Family members who should be first in line as the guardians are often not even allowed to get in line. They are attacked with unproven innuendos, inferences and allegations that go on the record and they rarely get a day in court to be heard or to defend themselves. This travesty in our State Courts in leaving carnage of broken lives behind in a system that costs the vulnerable and their families tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. GOD HELP THE ELDERLY TODAY AND US TOMORROW WHEN WE ARE OLD IF WE DO NOT GET THE CHANGE WE NEED ! RICKY RING It is wrong to abuse the elderly and exploit their estate and then on top of that abuse and exploit money from the family member who is only trying to help the elderly person as the guardian. EVERY DAY I ASK MYSELF THIS QUESTION … WHY CAN YOU GET A POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR IN A COUPLE OF DAYS BUT GETTING A GUARDIANSHIP WITH ALMOST THE SAME POWERS CAN COST TENS IF NOT HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ? WE MUST DEMAND CHANGE! NO ONE SHOULD BE DECLARED INCOMPETENT JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE OLD AND HAVE MONEY. I am a guardian for my 93 year old foster mother. I initially petitioned to help end her suffering when she lay in a private home with a severe medical condition that required surgery and where she was being denied proper care. When Adult Protective Services and the Attorney General’s office were contacted to intervene they told us me (her nephew and me) that we should file for guardianship. During the next year she had a public guardian, two private guardians, three attorney ad litems and two private attorneys involved in the matter. A good portion of her money went to pay the professionals and the attorneys; the rest was taken improperly by her former power of attorney. Finally a year later when her money was gone and she needed help getting on Medicaid and SSI and when she needed help to get an accounting of her assets and to recover her converted assets, we were appointed as the guardians. A judgment was issued for the return of her money and the Court said the legal fees were to be paid from that but the judgment was not put in her name or the guardian’s names so we could not collect it for her. Incredibly the attorney who stood by while the money was taken and who had already been paid thousands with her assets fled a lawsuit a lawsuit against me personally as the guardian for the exact same legal fees (over $20,000.00) he had petitioned for in the guardianship court. Shockingly three judges in two Courts sat back and watch as I was systematically torn apart in the second court where I was being sued doing nothing to stop the injustice until finally I was forced to pay the money or risk personal bankruptcy and lose my job. Today my foster mother is healthy and happy living in Texas due to my efforts and is supported by the Taxpayers supplemented by my personal funds were needed. The guy who took her money pled guilty to financial exploitation and has or will be ordered to pay some restitution. The Guardianship cost to my foster mother was close to $200,000 and left me spending over $70,000 of my own funds leaving me with a home equity loan to end the nightmare I was in with the double assault in two courts. GOD HELP THE ELDERLY AND VULNERABLE IN AMERICA’S STATE COURTS IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE TO STOP GROSSLY INJUST SYSTEM THAT ROBS THEIR ESTATES AND THEIR LIVES AND DESTROYS THEIR FAMILIES. I’M SURE NONE OF THEM EVER PLANNED FOR THIS OUTCOME AS THEY PUT THEIR PENNIES AWAY OVER THE YEARS.
